Australian diplomatic representation in Noumea began in August 1940. Australia has a multifaceted relationship with New Caledonia which has grown and strengthened over the years.

10th Conference of the Pacific Community and 70th Anniversary celebrations

The Minister for International Development and the Pacific, Senator the Hon Concetta Fierravanti-Wells attended the 10th Conference of the Pacific Community and 70th Anniversary celebrations in Noumea.

The theme of the 10th Conference of the Pacific Community was ‘Innovative Partnerships for Sustainable Development’. The Senator’s speech is available here.

New Colombo Plan

82 Australian university students will soon be coming to New Caledonia in the 2018 Mobility Grants intake of the New Colombo Plan. This is the first time that New Caledonia will be a destination for the New Colombo Plan.

Pacific Economic Cooperation Council Seminar

Australian Consul-General Heidi Bootle spoke at the Pacific Economic Cooperation Council (PECC) seminar held at the Secretariat of the Pacific Community (SPC). She outlined Australia’s energy policy including the upcoming Energy White Paper and Australia’s support in the Pacific to assist countries to meet their long term energy needs.

10th Australia New Caledonia Business Forum

Parliamentary Secretary to the Foreign Minister, Senator Brett Mason, was the keynote speaker at the 10th Australian New Caledonian Business Forum in Brisbane. The Forum, hosted by the Australia Pacific Islands Business Council (APIBC) aims to build trade networks and present new opportunities for bilateral trade and investment.
