Data breaches are a worldwide risk that can affect individuals, companies, organisations and Governments.
Affected companies and organisations notify their impacted customers directly. The Australian Passport Office (APO) is also notified both for Australian and foreign passport holders.
Relevant data breach Information to Australian and foreign passport holders is available on the Australian Passports website at Search | Australian Passport Office (passports.gov.au). Please also check the official website of the company or organisation concerned for their up-to-date information on what to do further to the breaches affecting their services and data, including Optus, Medibank Private and Latitude Financial.
Foreign passport holders, notified of a breach by companies or organisations advising their foreign information has been compromised, should contact the government that issued the foreign passport for advice on what to do. This is also the case for all data breaches that impact foreign passport holders.
